Sunday 03.06.16

The March winds have been blowing in changes in the Midwest region.  The temperatures have been warm inviting people outdoors.  Trees are beginning to bud out and flowers are beginning to break out of the dark cold earth.

I have been off line from blogging for over a month, due to new responsibilities of helping my parents enter into the next phase of their lives.  Both of them are now living in a skilled nursing facility.  While they are receiving much needed care, it is somewhat daunting to have additional responsibilities - advocating for their needs and tending to their personal belongings.  And then there is the emotional aspect of witnessing first hand the continuous demise of your parents due to dementia.

On the flip side are all of the blessings that have been put in my path - supportive family members, friends beside me while I sorted their belongings, saving me boxes, calling me to tell me they were thinking of me and when I had questions - a person appeared with the answer.

I know I am not the first person nor will I be the last person to walk this journey with their parents.  While my parents didn't prepare well for their demise, they did help me to prepare with the faith that they instilled within me.  That is the well that I draw from for strength, courage and peace.  For that - I am a Lucky Penne.

We are in the fourth week of Lent and we are encouraged to taste and see the goodness of the Lord:
Look to him that you may be radiant with joy,
and your faces may not blush with shame.
When the poor one called out, the LORD heard,
and from all his distress he saved him.  Psalms 34:6-7
